- Brief Description of SLaPO
The Sign Language People Organization (SLaPO) is a registered nonprofit organization based in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone, dedicated to empowering Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals across all communities of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Founded by Peter Sidikie Gbla, SLaPO is committed to promoting specialized Deaf education, vocational training, advocacy for Deaf rights, and social inclusion.
We support Deaf and hearing-impaired children, including those within the broader PWD community and those with additional disabilities such as visual impairments, by providing financial assistance for education.
SLaPO also funds sign language interpreters’ services for employment and community programs, ensuring that communication barriers are broken and Deaf voices are fully heard.
